Passion and emotion in the Estepona's streets

Easter celebrations in Estepona: colorful celebrations filled with passion, singing, reflections and tributes to ancient images.

From Thursday through Sunday in Estepona, we celebrate the saints and remember all the pilgrims who saved us from evil. Easter is the most celebrated feast in Estepona, Andalusia and the surrounding area, with traditional, lively celebrations in churches and processions in the streets. Very impressive are the penitents, dressed in special tunica, and the women - Las Mantillas - who symbolize respect with their black lace clothing and matching hair combs and headscarves. The passionate lamentations - La Saeta - give you chills listening to their celebration of life.
I get a lump in my throat every time I watch this gracious mix of respectful young and old people: extraordinarily pure and unique!
